Belleville St block gets a new plaza & bike lane

The 400 block of Belleville St right in front of the old Steamship building is getting a new plaza and wider sidewalks, which is fantastic. The city is also going to be installing an unprotected bike lane in this block, something we had hoped the city would reconsider protecting when they debated it last week but sadly they did not.

More BikeBC Funding Needed

The GVCC is disappointed that the recent 2017 BikeBC grants did not include funding for any projects in the Capital Regional District (CRD). At least two municipalities submitted applications for BikeBC funding in 2017: the City of Victoria for the Fort St protected bike lane and the District of Saanich for the McKenzie bike lane between Cedar Hill Rd and Shelbourne St.

Vic Derman was a lot of things in his long career of public service: councillor, CRD director, community advocate, but he was also a tireless advocate for bikes as transportation in the region. The GVCC is deeply saddened by his loss and hopes you can come out to his celebration of life on April 2nd, 2pm at the Victoria Conference Centre.
