2017 View Royal by-election candidate answers

Posted by on Nov 16, 2017 in Advocacy, Featured | 0 comments

View Royal is having a by-election to fill a vacant spot, so we took the opportunity to ask the candidates about a few View Royal-bike specific issues: Our Questions: 1. Do you support changing View Royal’s bylaws to allow bike riders to ride across crosswalks on regional trails (e.g., the Galloping Goose trail and E&N trail)? Background: View Royal is the only core municipality in the CRD that doesn’t have a bylaw allowing people to ride across crosswalks on the Galloping Goose and E&N regional trails. 2. Do you support completing and adding protection to the existing bike lanes on Island Hwy & Helmcken Rd? Background: View Royal has added bike lanes on nearly every major road in the municipality, but many of those bike lanes are unprotected, narrow and they end at intersections, roundabouts and other places. 3. Do you support increasing funding for bike infrastructure in View Royal? We were very happy to see that 4 of the 7 candidates responded. You can read their answers here (PDF). Election Day is Nov 18th. More information on the View Royal...

We need your voice to help add bike lanes on Cadboro Bay Rd. Oak Bay has just started public consultation on a new lane that will run from Foul Bay Rd to Bowker Ave. Of the two options, Option 1 with partial protection is the better one. But neither of these are All Ages and Abilities, but there is still time to tell council that you support the lanes and push them to build a AAA bike lane.
