Construction on Victoria’s first fully-protected bike lane is moving speedily along, with signals now being installed and concrete poured. We were enjoying the sun, taking pictures and observing the progress yesterday. If you haven’t been downtown recently, take a look below. Photos start in the 900-block of Pandora Ave (between Vancouver St and Quadra St), and head west towards Store St & the Johnson St Bridge. Can’t wait to ride on it? Neither can we! The provincial government has declined to allow the Transit Commission to add 2 cents to the gas tax. Reliable and efficient transit connections are a key part of making a great biking region. Expanding and maintaining the quality of transit service and continuing the project of making our region more livable will certainly be more difficult without the enhanced revenue stream that this small hike in the gas tax represents. The GVCC, along with Walk On, WE Bike and the Greater Victoria Placemaking Network, wrote a joint letter of support (PDF) for the 2 cent/litre hike to the commission. We hope that the new provincial government honours Victoria’s request to expand transit in the region and will work with the newly-created Better Transit Alliance to help make that...
